A History of West Grimstead and the Read Family

2012  was the 200th anniversary of our first Read ancestors arriving in West Grimstead; for the last 30 years I have been researching our family history and my village.

My interest was first sparked during a wander through my village churchyard.

I saw a set of large headstones to the right of the church door and although the inscriptions were very worn I could see my surname on several of these stones. I returned the next day and 'rubbed' the stones in an effort to read more of the inscriptions and that was it - family history and the history of the places where my family lived became my hobby. Over the years I have gathered together many records of this village and can now share these with you.
